[Persona 5 Protagonist/Akira Kurusu x Gender-neutral!Reader]

"I forgot my umbrella..." you nonchalantly stated. The rain that was falling gave no signs of stopping and you could do nothing but wait.

"This is boring..."
You decided that standing still was too much of a drag and started walking without any cover. Getting drenched by water was a normal occurrence, the people at school threw buckets of water at you everyday when they were cleaning so you didn't really mind. You were raised not to be troublesome and troublesome you weren't. People were pathetic if they needed to showcase their dominance and humiliate others, you thought and scowled at the messages you just received from those assholes at school.
How'd they get your number in the first place? Were those bullies previously in cahoots with Kamoshida?
You didn't know why that idiot had bothered to spread some rumors about you and because of him, you were at the student body's mercy. You couldn't open your shoe locker without a dozen of threatening letters pouring out and your vandalized desk was beyond saving. It was a wonder that nobody else noticed these things. That bastard of an adult was gone but your reputation at Shujin was ruined thanks to him. Even though he was long gone, nobody even spoke or spared a glance when you strode through the hallways-
You snapped out of your reverie when you noticed the rain was no longer falling on you.
"You're going to catch a cold one day, you know," the owner of the umbrella hovering over you said.
"And? It's not like I care." you spat out bitterly and then sighed. The transfer student was bothering you again. He started to talk you out of the blue one day and the two of you had some weird relationship going on. You weren't exactly friends but you knew each other too much to be acquaintances. Then again, you called each other by your given names... "So, what do you need? Usually you don't talk to me in public like this," you responded.
"I just wanted to walk home with you."
Coincidentally, both of you lived in the same neighborhood - which was kind of annoying.
"That sounds like a dumb reason."
"Yeah, it does."
"Are you just gonna agree with whatever I say?"
"Yeah."
"You sound like a love-struck boy, somebody on your mind?"
"Yeah- Wait, what?"
You sighed despondently and shook your head, "Forget I said anything, fool."
All was silent until the two of you stopped walking before his place, Cafe Leblanc.
He shoved the umbrella into your face. "Here."
"Hah?!" You scooted away from hurriedly in your confusion.
"You can just return it tomorrow."
"I was gonna use your employee discount to get a few cups of coffee..." your voice trailed off as the pitter-patter of the rain was increasing.
"Oh."
Coffee - currently your life's only saviour. He knew about what was going on at school and the pressures of not breaking down in public was weighing on you. He knew why you didn't care about walking in the rain without cover.
This wasn't a relationship of benefits or desires.
He knew nothing more could occur.
He knew.

You didn't realise it but for him, the world momentarily froze with your comment.
The cruel laughter of fate echoed in his ears. You knew.
You knew, yet you didn't even mention it once - not after Kamoshida, not after Madarame, not after everything.
A roll of bandages, a harsh punch and kick, a solemn glare - your voice whispering words into his ear.

He knew that you knew something was up with him, something strange - somewhat otherworldly.
You knew.

The two of you were just people who knew the darkness of reality, lost in the sea of souls, finding each other in the rain one day.

“I don’t even know who you are anymore.”
“No, don’t say that please. Look, we can fix this, I’ll do anything, just tell me what to do.”
Akira looks at you with wide eyes and frantic gestures. His hair is tousled, matted with sweat and rain and sticking to his skin. He’s desperate. But so are you, for an entirely different reason.
“We can’t fix this, Akira,” you murmur, tears beginning to form in the corners of your eyes. It was a prickling, stinging pain, but it wasn’t as terrible as the way your heart was squeezing, stretching and collaps

A single candle lights up the dimly lit room as rain pounds heavily on your window. You feel Kurusu stir on your bed as he tries to find a comfortable position next to you. A pair of arms wrapped around your waist as you looked down to see him snuggling up against you.
“Akira, the power’s out. Shouldn’t you go find the flashlight?” you asked him as you run a hand through his messy ebony locks, feeling the silky strands slip through the space between your fingers. Kurusu hums in content as he basks in your affection, wanting nothing more than to always stay by your side.

“(Name), there’s a box in front of the house,” you heard Kurusu announce. Curious, you got up from your comfortable position on the couch and went to find him. You found him next to a tall cardboard box.
“Oh, I know what this is. It’s the telescope I told you about last week,” you stated as you walked over to it, attempting to move the box. “…” You pouted as he chuckles at your failed attempt. “Don’t laugh! If you think it’s so funny, why don’t you lift it yourself?”
The noiret easily picks it up and begins to carry it fur

The first thing I create on this site is a piece of shit thanks to Persona 5 getting released.
Why hasn't Atlus deleted anything on YouTube? I screwed myself over by watching the game being played (even if I don't understand half of the things said).
I have (no) regrets...
Thanks for reading... I'm gonna go dig myself a hole...
Edit - 2/04/2017:
With the game releasing worldwide in a few days, I decided to go back and change a few things.
Sorry if I spoiled something for whomever is reading this.

This works so well with the song "Wait for me to come home"
